Parenting skills are the guiding forces of a “good parent” to lead a child into a healthy adult, they influence on development, maintenance, and cessation of children’s negative and positive behaviors. Here are some of those guiding forces which may make you a better parent.

  • Accept your child for the wonderful person he or she is
  • Be a good role model in all you say and do
  • Communicate respectfully and listen attentively to your child
  • Disciple fairly, firmly and with love
  • Encourage good eating habits
  • Find ways to get and stay fit together
  • Give chores that built responsibility
  • Hug your child to build self-worth
  • Instill respect for other people
  • Join PTMs and other school activities to assess child’s progress
  • Keep your promise or do not make them
  • Laugh together and enjoy each other’s company
  • Make family rules and enforce them consistently
  • Never use physical force on your child
  • Offer your help whenever it’s needed
  • Praise your child for achievements as well as for efforts
  • Quickly stop your child from harmful activities
  • Read together often and make reading fun
  • Show patience and remember nobody is perfect
  • Teach health and safety rules
  • Use every opportunity to show your love
  • Value your child’s thoughts and opinion
  • Wait until you cool down before disciplining your child
  • Xerox and save records of your child’s achievements
  • You can make a difference in your child’s life ….so parent with pride
