Communication means sending or receiving messages through speaking, writing, or some other way. There are mainly 2 types of communication.
- Verbal communication
Transferring the messages through written or spoken mode. In verbal communication uses words in delivering the intended message. There are two type of verbal communication. One is written communication and other one is spoken communication
- Non-verbal communication
This is the process of sending and receiving messages without using words. It is the other way of communication which include convey information about their emotions, needs, intentions, thought without using words and letters. There are some barriers that can affect an effective communication that includes sematic and syntactic barriers, psychological barriers, cultural barriers, physical barriers, physiological barriers.
Communication process includes 5 stages:
- Idea formation encoding
- Channel selection
- Decoding
- Feedback
- Importance of effective communication
Effective communication helps co-ordination, fluent working, decision making, and good relationship.
There are some activities to improve communication skills of children are:
- Work on based on kids interest
- Use simple language initially
- Introduce non-verbal communication first
- Improve vocabulary
- Improve comprehension of lexica’s
- Improve eye contact
- Improve grammatical skills
- Improve sentence formation skills
- Improve peer group interaction
- Social interaction
